New polyester derived from lignocellulosic biomass

The project in a nutshell

The Laboratory of Sustainable and Catalytic Processing (LPDC) at EPFL developed and patented a new polyester derived from lignocellulosic biomass. This polyester has properties similar to PET. Preliminary data has demonstrated that the material will degrade and solubilize in water with dissolution times dependent on water pH and temperature. In order to demonstrate marine bio-degradability, the team wishes to perform hydrolytic degradation tests in Lake Leman.
