LéXPLORE Letters No. 36

This newsletter was generated on the 03-01-2024.

The figures below are showing data for the period 13-12-2023 to 27-12-2023.

Until today, Thetis sampled 4052 depth profiles on Lake Geneva. In this Newsletter we show 14 profiles, so just 0.35% of the recorded data. The complete data set is available at Datalakes.

Data highlights of this issue

Looking at the second half of December, we see the expected, steady decline of water temperatures under the platform. Although this issue only covers data for seven days, we also see a decrease of the water temperature anomaly magnitudes with quiet weather conditions after December 15th.

In the extended time series from the automatic weather station, we can identify a strong front passing over the platform on December 21st, bringing elevated air temperatures, waves of up to 80 cm and wind speeds reaching 10 m/s.

What is displayed

Data from the Thetis profiler:

  • Water Temperature in °Celsius

  • Water Temperature Anomaly on daily resolution with respect to to the available daily climatology from Thetis so far in Kelvin

  • Dissolved Oxygen mg/L

  • Oxygen Saturation in %

  • Salinity mg/L

Data from the automatic weather station:

  • Air Temperature in °Celsius

  • Wind Speed in m/s

  • Precipitation in mm

Data from the wave buoy:

  • Wave height in decimeter
