Algal Blooms in Lake Geneva in the Face of Global Changes (ALGA)

The project in a nutshell:
Our project aims at understanding the conditions leading to blooms of phytoplankton in Lake Geneva. To that end, we developed an image-based workflow to sustain long-term observations of phytoplankton. Samples are collected on LéXPLORE on a daily (surface depth) or sub-daily (6 depths every 4 hours) basis and imaged with a series of FlowCams and CytoSense since December 2024. These images constitute our primary datasets to train algorithms able to recognize the different species present in the lake, and learn what biotic and abiotic factors trigger their bloom and demise.
Images libraries are available at https://ecotaxa.obs-vlfr.fr/gui/prj/14791 (FlowCam micro images), https://ecotaxa.obs-vlfr.fr/gui/prj/15080 (FlowCam macro images), https://ecotaxa.obs-vlfr.fr/gui/prj/15101 (CytoSense images).
