Antimicrobial Resistance Tracking and Fate modeling in the Urban flows – Lake interface (ARTFUL)
Particle tracking results for the sampling campaign on May 1st, 2024 (colored tracks in background), sampling locations (colored markers) and AMR indicator gene abundances (barcharts of log10 concentrations of sul1 and intI1 genes) in surface water at 2 m depth.
The project in a nutshell:
Project ARTFUL (Antimicrobial Resistance Tracking and Fate modeling in the Urban flows – Lake interface) is an SNSF-funded research project aiming to understand the fate of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) determinants entering Lake Geneva with wastewater. We develop and use sensitive sequencing-based methods to track and quantify AMR in the lake. We use model-guided sampling and data interpretation as well as experimental approaches to understand our field observations. We rely on LéXPLORE as a floating laboratory, base of operations, experimental station, and key data source.
