Spatio-temporal analysis of wind field characteristics over Lake Geneva

The project in a nutshell

We are investigating the spatial and temporal variabilities in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) just above the lake surface water. The ultimate goal is to identify the effect of such heterogeneities in the air-water heat fluxes.

Our first objective is to identify the footprints of coherent flow structures in the ABL and to explore how their occurrence is correlated with environmental parameters. A LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) and an Eddy Covariance package will enable us to estimate the fluxes directly and to relate the temporal variabilities in the fluxes to the coherent motions in the wind field.
