MIRAGE: Multi-scale Investigation of stRAtification in Lake Geneva

The project in a nutshell

Understanding lake dynamics in order to predict the mixing or transport of pollutants and nutrients requires knowledge of stratification and currents at scales ranging from a few centimetres to several kilometres. To move beyond the point measurements currently used, we propose to employ acoustic tomography methods and fibre-optic temperature measurements.

The MIRAGE project aims to evaluate equipment derived from conventional oceanographic and seismological techniques, characterise the acoustic environment of Lake Geneva, and conduct a feasibility study using the resources available at LéXPLORE, prior to a larger-scale deployment.
