Sailowtech (https://make.epfl.ch/projects/59/make-sailowtech-59) is an EPFL MAKE project and association that promotes environmental awareness, with a focus on aquatic ecosystems. It encourages frugal, open-source, and citizen science approaches, emphasizing “low-tech” or “tech under constraint” engineering. Sailowtech organizes scientific sailing expeditions on lakes, seas, and oceans, enabling students to design, build, and test their own instruments while learning field research skills.
The LéXPLORE platform will be used as a test, training, and comparison site for the development of these low-tech instruments, taking advantage of the continuous reference measurements conducted on site prior to deployment during expeditions. It may also be used for occasional one-day field missions.
