The project in a nutshell
The aim of POETICS is to perform weekly sampling of phyto- and zooplankton, to collect discrete samples across depth and build a long-term dataset. Idronaut on LeXPLORE, delivers continuous recordings of biomass of green algae, diatoms and cyanobacteria, POETICS provides backbone information on plankton dynamics at LeXPLORE. Samples are analysed using CytoBuoy and Flowcam. Diversity is scored at a functional – trait based – level for both groups. Samples are also analysed for C : P content, to study how this ratio varies seasonally, and as a function of phytoplankton community composition. Specific interest is in the effects of re-oliogotrophication, (in)direct effects of climate warming and resistance and resilience of the plankton community after disturbance.
